Domain Name Categories

Grouping domain names for valuation purposes should be done intelligently. Consider, for example, a few four-character dot-com domain names: pets.com, xyzz.com, cnbc.com, and nova.com. They cannot all be lumped into a generic group of four-character domain names. Pets.com is that of a liquidated company; xyzz.com is not a recognizable name or abbreviation; CNBC is a well-known trademark; nova means “no go” in Spanish, which would have a negative connotation in Spanish-speaking countries.

Thus, taking the average sale price of four-character dot-com domain names does not yield an accurate price of any four-character domain name. Careful sub-grouping within such a classification is necessary.
